What to Expect

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not just a movie -- it is an experience. Audience members are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character, bring props, and participate in the call-backs and routines that have become tradition. If you have never been, do not be shy. The regulars will show you the ropes.

The Midland Theatre provides a gorgeous, acoustically rich setting for the screening. The 1928 movie palace was built for nights like this. The iconic soundtrack -- "Time Warp," "Sweet Transvestite," "Science Fiction/Double Feature" -- sounds incredible through the house sound system.

Costume and Prop Guide

Standard props include rice, newspapers, rubber gloves, toast (yes, toast), and a flashlight. Check with the Midland Theatre for their specific prop policy before you come. Costumes are strongly encouraged but not required. The more creative, the better.

Plan Your Night

Downtown Newark has plenty of dinner options within walking distance of the theatre. Grab a bite before the show and make a full evening of it. Parking is available in nearby lots and on surrounding streets. The 8:00 PM showtime means you will be home at a reasonable hour -- even after doing the Time Warp a few times.
